Your role
As Buyer Raw Materials, you are in charge for a category of raw materials which means you are responsible for the forecasting of raw materials, maintaining supplier relations, follow-up of relevant market information about raw materials, suppliers and fairs of your category. Furthermore, you closely follow-up commodity markets, you process, and you prepare market information for the business.
You provide reporting and general support to the Raw Materials Manager. For this exciting role you will be working at our HQ based in Ghent.
Key responsibilities
- As Buyer Raw Materials you source raw materials at the best “Total Cost of Ownership” within the requested timing and according to agreed quality criteria / technical specifications.
- You are responsible for the daily follow-up of commodity markets and processes and the appropriate execution of existing contracts.
- You establish a sustainable relation and regular contacts with your key suppliers (performance evaluation, complaints, vendor objectives, cost reductions, innovations,…). You negotiate agreements (price agreements / contracts) and conclude with the suppliers.
- You formulate internal needs to the supplier for existing and new raw materials.
- You determine the needs for raw materials and negotiate price, quality and optimal order quantities within guidelines and you keep up-to-date on internal procedures and supplier data.
- You collect and maintain relevant market and supplier information. You follow up and analyze the international and European markets and identify raw materials that can offer added value. You select and contact (international) suppliers that meet our criteria and you assess their quality and solvency.
- Next to the above, you are responsible for further expanding internal relations with NPD / sales / QA / production sites in order to optimally translate Vandemoortele’s requirements to suppliers.
- Furthermore, you are responsible for making spend analyzes from existing suppliers in the context of price negotiations, preparing the annual budget exercise and giving support during the execution, acting as a first point of contact in case of structural complaints or out-of-stock, etc.
- Finally, you are also responsible for administrative support tasks. This includes, among other things, that you request internal quality of raw materials from the quality department, follow-up and pass on price instructions for raw materials, etc.

Are you the one we’re looking for?
- You hold a Master's degree (Economics, Commercial Sciences, Business Engineering, Bio-engineering, Chemical engineering, etc.).
- Above all you are ambitious, energetic, driven and open to receive and give challenges. Your drive and enthusiasm will motivate you to go the extra mile in engaging others.
- You are highly analytical with a flair for numbers.
- You have “no-nonsense” and down-to-earth mentality.
- Your excellent communication and persuasion skills enable you to motivate, drive and engage your internal (sales, R&D, production, …) and external stakeholders.
- You are proactive and stress-resistant. At the same time, you are pragmatic, problem-solving and looking for initiative.
- You are able to work together on major projects and you like to take ownership.
- You have a broad general interest and you are genuinely interested in economics, finance, etc. that are of any interest and impact on our industry.
- You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal, in English and French.
- Good knowledge of SAP is a plus.
